Family Friendliness: With a simple concept, easy controls and catchy music.  Baby Monkey (Riding Backwards on a Pig) is just plain fun to play.  Older pre-schoolers and up can easily control the action, although it’s sometimes unclear whether the pig or monkey needs to jump in order to clear an obstacle.

Highlights:
- After each playthrough, the game offers a tip as to what you needed to do.

- The game’s first playthough offers a seamless tutorial, which is welcome.  It’s a bit difficult to figure out how to access it again in case someone else wants to learn the controls too, though.

Lowlights:
- Kids may want to take control of the pig or the monkey, sharing responsibility, but the game won’t allow the pig to jump while the monkey is in the air.

- Even though it seems like some obstacles, like fences, should be jumped by the pig, it actually requires the monkey to jump it.

Game Details:

Baby Monkey (Riding Backwards on a Pig) is an app that’s based on a popular YouTube that features a, wait for it, baby monkey riding backwards on a pig.

Here’s a link to the popular YouTube video.

In the game, which features the incredibly earwormy Baby Monkey song, players will be able to control the monkey’s jump and the pigs jumps as they race constantly towards the right side of the screen.  The monkey will jump higher depending on how long the monkey button is pressed, and the pig will jump only if the monkey is not jumping.

Believe it or not, there are some opportunities to play together with this one, although it’s not exactly perfect.  When testing out this game, our two kids both wanted to play simultaneously, with one controlling the pig and one controlling the monkey.  Unfortunately, the game was designed to not allow the pig to jump while the monkey was jumping.  If that could be or does get switched, this definitely is a game that can be played together.
