Barbie Groom and Glam Pups for Wii is a game which asks players to groom, train and accessorize (yes, accessorize) their dogs as they work to win money to earn more tricks, breeds and glamour for their pooches.
Most of the game is played by pointing the Wii-mote at the screen, and there are lots of different things players will need to do in order to keep their dogs happy and looking their best.
In the grooming section, players will need to brush and bathe their dogs by pointing the Wii-mote at the screen to lather up, rinse off and trim their dogs. Each action makes the dogs happier, which will make them likely to earn more money in performances.
In the performance mode, dogs will take part in Photo Shoots, Runway Shows and Dance Routines, which incorporate many of the tricks that players will learn when they train their dogs. These tricks are performed by flicking or shaking the Wii-mote in the direction that the onscreen prompts tell players. In the training mode, when players get their dog to successfully perform a trick, they can give them a treat, which helps fill a meter showing that the dog is mastering the command.
The Glam part of Barbie Groom and Glam Pups takes place in the game’s boutique. Players will take the money they earned in the Performances and use them to buy items such as hats, bowties, sweaters, costumes, sunglasses and more for their dogs. Dogs will wear whatever players select for them in the boutique in all the other areas of the game.
Barbie Groom and Glam Pups is a great game for young girls who are able to carry out precise Wii-mote movements on screen. Although on one hand the game is glorifying some frightening aspects of dog ownership (such as all the accessories and costumes), it also does a good job of teaching a few basic dog care techniques. There’s no set ultimate goal in Groom and Glam Pups, but instead players will enjoy unlocking new items and breeds, and training their dogs to be the best.
