Car’s Toon Mater’s Tall Tales is a collection of Wii minigames that is designed to be accessible for family members of all ages to enjoy, and features a fun mix of cooperative and competitive gameplay.
The game is very light on any written instructions, and tries to convey everything through character animations and by use of pictures. This is especially helpful for younger kids who will enjoy this game although may not yet be able to read. Although everything is mostly clear, we did have some trouble getting started since we would sometimes would click on the wrong thing and it would either take us back, or to the garage, as opposed to the mini-games.
In order to unlock mini-games to be able to play, you’ll need to play through the different episodes that feature Mater as a fireman, matador or even talking about his UFO encounters. There are six episodes in all, and each episode contains four to six mini-games. After you play through them the first time, you can then play them whenever you want in the game’s freeplay mode.
The mini-games are a fun variety of activities that will at times see players compete against one another, but at other times will ask players to work together. We thought there was a nice balance between the two, and appreciated the opportunities to be able to play together in different ways. Some of the mini-games do require precise aiming, but most are accessible enough for kids as young as 4 to really enjoy and be able to experience success.
Car’s Toon Mater’s Tall Tales is a great game for families with young kids. Most mini-games are playable by toddlers, although a few require some precise aiming that is better suited for kids. It’s a fun trip into the universe of Cars, and provides many opportunities for competitive and cooperative gameplay.
