Charlie Church Mouse Super Pak is a computer game with versions that are designed for three different learning levels – ages 2-4, ages 4-6 and ages 6-8.
Between levels of each game, inspirational messages about God or the bible often play.
In Charlie Church Mouse, players get a quick telling of a story from the bible, and then play some sort of game that is based on the story’s topic. Sometimes the tie-in is very natural, like loading pairs of animals in an ark. Sometimes it’s a bit forced, but still a good activity, like filling in shapes on a puzzle to help God on one of his days of creation.
Depending on whether you are playing the Preschool, Kindergarten or Early Elementary version, you’ll get tasks suited for the appropriate age group. Preschoolers will play games based on recognizing simple shapes, colors, letters and numbers. Kindergartners will need to find patterns and sort objects, and Early Elementary kids will be challenged with math, spelling and even synonyms and antonyms.
Each level in Charlie Church Mouse also has different levels of challenges, which offers nice variety within each story.
All the Charlie Church Mouse games feature very basic graphics that are surpassed by most online games these days, but the messages and gameplay are still solid and timeless.
Our two young sons really enjoyed helping each other out playing Charlie Church Mouse. They very much enjoyed the silly videos and sound effects, and even our two year old, who couldn't always control the mouse, was content to point to the correct answers and have his older brother help make selections for him. We were pleasantly suprised at how this helped our kids play together.
One thing that was sometimes difficult for us as we played was that there was no way to get the character to repeat the command if you missed it, you instead need to just guess as to what they’re looking for. For example, you may be looking for the letter that starts a word that is spelled “_ i g,” but if you miss the pronunciation the first time, or you can’t tell whether they said “big” or “pig,” you’ll just need to guess and hope you get it right.
Charlie the Church Mouse is clearly based on Christian ideals and beliefs, so if that sort of stuff offends you, then you should obviously steer clear of this one. But even if the church is not a big part of your family’s life, you still may like Charlie Church Mouse as the game does a great job of providing solid educational play alongside a quick telling of a story from the bible. Sure, these stories mention God and Jesus, but many are also well-known for reasons beyond that because of the messages and morals they convey.
