Guilty Party is a Wii game that asks players to gather clues and information in order to solve a mystery. The game can be played alone, or with up to four other friends and family members, with the option to work cooperatively together, or competitively against each other.
Both the game’s Story mode and Party mode can be played by multiple players at once, which is something we really like about Guilty Party. In the Story mode, players will work together to solve specific crimes that are committed as they work to get closer to the truth about the mysterious Mr. Valentine really is.
The way players solve crimes and discover information happens in a style that is almost like a board game, as each player draws special cards at the beginning of their turn, and only has a limited amount of moves or questions they can ask on each turn. During each turn, players can explore different rooms or approach any of the game’s characters. These characters each have a distinctive look and personality, and while some will give you information right away, others may need to be cajoled a bit by playing a mini-game that sees you do things like give them money to talk, or avoid their eye contact. In all, there's more than 50 different mini-games.
Once you receive information from the character, you then can use your “lie detector” (which is always accurate) to determine if key pieces of information they provide are truthful or deceitful. Based upon that information, you can update your notebook, which will slowly get you closer to solving the mystery.
Although the game sounds a bit complex, we were able to quickly get the hang of it, and that the game does a good job of suggesting and walking you through what you need to do. The game does a great job of using the first couple of levels to explain and introduce the gameplay mechanics.
The game has different levels of difficulty as well, which makes the game enjoyable by a very broad range of ages. If your kid is old enough to read, then they will likely enjoy Disney's Guilty Party.
In addition to the game’s Story mode, players can also play a quick mystery by selecting Party Mode, in which a randomly-generated mystery is made available for up to four players to solve cooperatively or competitively.
With an emphasis on creative thinking and problem solving, Guilty Party is a title that can be enjoyed by a broad range of ages. For those that view video games as a guilty pleasure, Guilty Party proves that video games can be much more than that.
