Dood’s Big Adventure for Wii utliizes THQ’s uDraw Tablet controller to provide an experience that's geared for kids and in which player-customization plays a key role in the game's fun.
You’ll need to have the uDraw Tablet hardware in order to play this game, it won’t work with the regular Wii controls. To play, you’ll control the on-screen character named Dood by interacting with the uDraw pad, either by drawing with the Stylus, or by tilting it at appropriate times.
Each level of Dood’s Big Adventure features a different control scheme. In one, you’ll need to draw lines quickly to create trampolines for Dood to jump on and progress through the level. In another, Dood is in a ball, and you’ll tilt the entire uDraw pad to seemingly roll him through the level. Another mode has Dood in a balloon, and your stylus on the pad controls a fan which blows Dood around. Each level is definitely a fun challenge, and it’s made even more interesting by the fact that much of the artwork that appears in the level has the ability to have your own personal artistic.
When you first start playing, you’ll be able to decorate and draw on Dood to make him appear however you want. He starts as a white figure, and it’s up to you to decide what shapes and colors to put him on in to determine what he looks like in the rest of the game. Additionally, there are background balloons, bad guys, platforms and other obstacles that will first appear as white, but offer you the chance to color them however you’d like. Playing through the game and collecting just a few of the coins scattered throughout the levels helps you unlock these additional items to customize.
Although Dood’s Big Adventure requires the uDraw Tablet (sold separately), it’s a really fun demonstration of many of the different capabilities for game control that the uDraw provides, whether it’s drawing with the stylus or tilting the entire device. There is no multiplayer aspect to the game, but it can be enjoyed by kids as young as five-years-old, and the creative and artistic nature of this game makes it fun to “watch along” as someone else plays.
