Family Friendliness:

If you have older kids who are already interested in cooking, then this game is a great way to learn more about their hobby together.  But families with younger kids who just want to wiggle their Wii-motes and have fun should probably look elsewhere.

Highlights:

-- Cook or Be Cooked offers some really good cooking tips, and has lots of recipes that your family will be familiar with.

-- Budding chefs will really benefit from the emphasis placed on the importance of multitasking while cooking, to ensure everything is ready at the same time.

Lowlights:

-- Movements with the Wii-mote and nunchuk aren’t always intuitively translated to the action on the screen.

-- Susie Fogelson and Mory Thomas are excellent hosts, but sometimes there banter can be a little awkward and unnecessary.

Game Details:

Food Network Cook or Be Cooked is a fun presentation of cooking technique and tips.  This game isn’t about how fun it is to chop vegetables or how quickly you can grate the cheese, but rather about making sure that your vegetables are ready to cook at the right time so that the rest of the food doesn’t get cold.

In this game, you use the nunchuk along with the Wii-mote, and onscreen reminders will help you know when to wiggle, flip or shake each one.  Some of the movements are decent replications of what you are doing on screen, like chopping or turning on the oven, but oftentimes the movements aren’t very intuitive, especially when you have to shake the nunchuk to make objects magically appear.

The multiplayer mode is really just an extension of a single-player recipe, with Hot Potato style gameplay that sees both chefs alternating turns while the food continues to cook.

If you have older kids who are already interested in cooking, then this game is a great way for them to learn more about their hobby.  But younger kids who just want to wiggle their Wii-motes and have fun probably won’t enjoy this one too much.
