Frogger Decades is similar to the classic Frogger game, but is definitely an all-new experience.  It’s part of the celebration of Frogger’s 30th anniversary, and attempts to place a story as to why Frogger is leaping all around different environments.

Had the original Frogger never existed, the control scheme and overall gameplay would be a bit puzzling, because it’s a bit confusing and doesn’t seem as modern as other contemporary titles.  But given the context of the Frogger franchise, which dates back to the days of arcades and involves moving a frog one leap at a time, avoiding traffic and leaping across logs and leafs into a safe haven, then Frogger Decades makes a little more sense.

Since the iPhone and iPad have no joystick, the frog is now controlled by swiping your finger left, right up or down.  There are a number of different levels to guide the frog through.

There are also special controls that can be done, which are illustrated the first time they’re needed on the bottom of the screen.  They may involve holding your finger down on the left side of the screen to jump, or performing a quick tap in order to extend Frogger’s tongue.  We found these a bit difficult to get the hang of.

Frogger Decades is a fun experience that kids of all ages will love, and parents who played the original Frogger will enjoy sharing a similar experience with their kids.  The game can be difficult in some places, and the controls aren’t the most intuitive, but Frogger Decades is still a fun family friendly experience.
