Family Friendliness: The dancing animations in Get Up and Dance don’t seem quite as polished as Just Dance games, but they are clearly made with the input of real professional dancers and choreographers.  With a number of cool cooperative and competitive modes, this is a great choice for families who can’t get enough of this type of dancing game, although as casual radio listeners there were quite a few current songs that we’d never heard before.

Highlights:
Cool variety of game modes including a party mix which plays snippets of 5 different songs.

We love the group dances in which players can choose to be the lead dancer or a backup dancer.  This leads to some cool living room dancing scenes.

Lowlights:
While there are some fun classic tunes to dance to, many of the current songs were, to us, more obscure and were songs we hadn’t heard before.

Game Details:

The music selection in Get Up and Dance is a bit more obscure than Just Dance, but there are a number of cool features that make this game a worthy alternative.

The basic dancing gameplay in Get Up and Dance is very similar to Just Dance.  Players will hold a Wii-mote in their right hand and to their best to match the moves of the onscreen dancers.

Where Get Up and Dance shines is in the number of ways that multiple players can play and enjoy the game.  Certain songs have routines that involve a lead dancer and backup dancers.  There are also a few ways to play including some cool party and mix modes, as well as a couple other cool competitive modes.  In Last Man Standing mode players are given 10 “lives” and lose one each time they incorrectly perform a dance move.  The last one to have remaining lives wins.   In Tug of War, successful moves are converted to “pulling power” and players battle it out to see if they can “pull” their opponent towards them and past the center mark.

There’s also a rehearsal mode, an exercise mode and even a cool feature that allows users to simply watch the music videos featured in the game.
