Family Friendliness: Glee Karaoke Revolution Volume 2 is a fun karaoke game for families that like to let loose, especially if they watch the show together.  It’s a well-polished game, with easy menus and a simple way to change the difficulty and play style for each song.  We particularly like the Duet mode, but unfortunately only a few songs allow that option.  We wouldn’t play Glee Karaoke Revolution Volume 2 with kids who weren’t fans of the show, but families who do watch Glee with their kids shouldn't have any problem letting them play this as the “mild lyrics” and “sexual themes” are the same that are found on TV.

Highlights:

-Best part of the game is duet mode…

-Fans of Glee will love seeing the real performances from the episodes, as well as the way the show’s visual and sound effects are incorporated into the game.  Even non-fans will enjoy this as a good introduction to the series.

-Great variation of difficulty and play modes are easily selectable, making accessing songs with the difficulty levels and options you want to choose very easy.

Lowlights:

-…but there are only a few songs that let you sing as a duet.

-This is really only a game for two singers at a time, despite the packaging showing that four players can play.  The “Shooting Star” mode does allow up to four players to use their Wii-motes to shoot on-screen stars while one or two players sing, but it really didn’t add anything to the game for us except causing a distraction.

Game Details:

Glee Karaoke Revolution Volume 2 allows families to sing along with songs and scenes from the hit show Glee.  If your family has two microphones, up to two players can play at a time.

One great thing about Glee Karaoke Revolution Volume 2 is that families can access all the game’s songs right off the bat, either in the single-player Scrapbook mode, or by using Quick Play.  This makes it easy to jump right in.

The Scrapbook mode is the single-player mode, and allows singers to choose a character from the show, and perform their songs.  In order to earn checkmarks, they must complete certain challenges, such as reaching a certain score, or getting enough gold “Glee” marks in a row.  It’s a really neat way to provide lots of replayability for each song.

In Quick Play, up to two players sing at the same time either in either a competitive, cooperative or duet mode.  In competitive and cooperative mode, players sing the same parts, and either compete to see who scores the most, or combine their scores.  Duet mode was definitely our favorite, as song parts are split into two different word-tracks, which sometimes overlap.  Unfortunately, not every song has a Duet mode, though.

Also, don’t be fooled by the four-player indication on the packaging – only two players can sing at a time in Glee Karaoke Revolution Volume 2, simply because there’s only room for two microphones to be plugged into the Wii.   The reason the game says it is four-player is because in the game’s “Shooting Star” mode, up to four different players can point Wii-motes at the screen to literally shoot stars, trying to earn points while two other players sing.

The songs in Glee Karaoke Revolution Volume 2are a fun mix, and include title such as Bad Romance, U Can’t Touch This, Ice Ice Baby and more.  We’ve put the full list below.

One other thing that is also very cool about Glee Karaoke Revolution Volume 2 is the ease with which players can select songs and change difficulty.  It’s a simple system that makes accessing songs with the difficulty levels and options you want to choose very easy.  In Quickplay mode, each song even has its own custom logo, which we thought was a really nice touch.
