Family Friendliness: At the end of the day, we had some fun with Happy Feet Two Erik’s Adventure.  But it’s not the sort of game that had us wanting to come back for more.  It’s good for a one-time playthrough, but is probably an App you’ll look to replace to make room for others once you’re done, especially given it’s huge size.

Highlights:
We like how the story is narrated, with character voices telling the story of Erik’s Adventure.

Lowlights:
This App is really big, over 500 MB.  If you’re like us, that will make a big dent in the amount of free space you have.

Although the option to take pictures of certain characters while you play seems fun, in reality it detracts a bit from the gameplay as doing it seemed to interrupt the game flow.

Game Details:

Happy Feet Two Erik’s Adventure looks and feels like a video game, with a few different gameplay styles.  But the game mostly is all about belly sliding accurately.  And there’s a definite “Angry Birds” wannabe feel to the fact that you place your penguin a ramp, pull him back and release him to see him shoot across the screen.

The game unfolds and tells a story based on the Happy Feet Two movie, where Mumble’s son Erik is looking for a hero because he can’t dance as well as the other penguins.  As he and his friends meander around Antarctica, certain parts of the story must be played out, such as freeing a leopard seal from a crevasse, or helping young penguins escape from being trapped.  For the most part, these are all done with the “pull back and release” mechanic of belly-sliding.

While there are many 3D elements to this app, at times  it seems like unnecessary embellishments, as this App is easily one of the biggest we’ve encountered recently, and required us to delete quite a few other Apps off our device to make room.  The shame in this is that as soon as you’re done playing it, you’re going to want to delete it off your device to make room for others.
