Family Friendly Video Games Approved
Family Friendliness: As with previous entries in the series, Family Game Night is a perfect game for, well, family game night.  These video games can inspire interest in the real-life board games, which many parents who don’t want their kids getting too much screen time will appreciate.  Although every family will probably have their favorites, we particularly enjoyed Connect 4 Basketball, Yahtzee Bowlling and Sorry Sliders the most.

Highlights:
- Connect 4 Basketball is one of our favorite “mini-games” we’ve ever played.  It’s a brilliant twist on a familiar classic, introducing a bit of randomness to the game’s basic strategy.

Lowlights:
- As with earlier versions of Family Game Night, Bop It was again our least favorite game here.  We’d love to hear from folks who enjoy playing it, but it usually leads to frustration for us.

Game Details:

This version of Family Game Night includes “re-imagined” versions of familiar favorites, which means that there are a few twists added to the basic concepts of games like Yahtzee, Connect 4, Scrabble, Sorry and Bop It!

Each of the games holds up on its own and has two different ways to play (usually a “basic” version and slightly more advanced one), but they’re all also unified by a game show hosted by Mr. Potato Head, which is very similar to the real-life Family Game Night TV game show on HUB Network.

As with previous entries in the series, Family Game Night is a perfect game for, well, family game night.  These video games can inspire interest in the real-life board games, which many parents who don’t want their kids getting too much screen time will appreciate.  Although every family will probably have their favorites, we particularly enjoyed Connect 4 Basketball, Yahtzee Bowlling and Sorry Sliders the most.

The game of course allows for multiple players, and there are various opportunities for head-to-head and cooperative gameplay.

Here's information from the announcement press release:

Based on FAMILY GAME NIGHT, the popular show produced by Hasbro Studios for The Hub television network, the latest digital collection from EA will include re-imagined versions of five beloved games for the Wii, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3. With full motion control support including Kinect PlayStation Move integration, FAMILY GAME NIGHT 4: The Game Show will have families and friends on their feet and rallying to compete in their living rooms, playing the same fan favorite games as their TV counterparts.

FAMILY GAME NIGHT 4: The Game Show will have players jumping into action with CONNECT 4 Basketball where the first team to shoot four balls in a row of one color wins. They can also scramble to re-arrange virtual word tiles in SCRABBLE Flash – the longer the word, the better the score. Teams will push hard to achieve a bulls-eye or block their opponents with enormous on-screen game pieces in SORRY! Sliders, while YAHTZEE! Bowling will have families chasing down scoring combinations as they “roll” giant bowling balls and knock down pins. Players with a sharp ear and fast reflexes will dominate in BOP-IT Boptigon as players are challenged to execute the right movement at the right time at an ever increasing feverish pace, and the MONOPOLY Crazy Cash Machine doles out big prizes to those who come out on top of Family Game Night.

FAMILY GAME NIGHT 4: The Game Show offers two-player individual or simultaneous gameplay and can be tailored to the style of play the family or individual enjoys most in terms of choosing length of game show time or setting rules. The video game also offers Mii and avatar integration (Wii and Xbox 360 only).

EA promises that "playing FAMILY GAME NIGHT 4: The Game Show will feel like a live game show is unfolding in your living room, delivering excitement, anticipation and competition.” - Mark Blecher, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Digital Media and Gaming at Hasbro.
