High Velocity Bowling is a PS3 game that was released nearly three years ago, yet still remains popular as an online game.  Now, with the release of PlayStation Move, Sony is looking to revitalize the experience through the inclusion of support for the Move controllers.

When High Velocity Bowling was first released, it was a download only title.  But now, with the Move release, Sony has released the game as a disc that you can buy, which comes loaded with 20 plus characters and themed alleys, trick shot packs and additional goodies to complete the experience.   If you do already own High Velocity Bowling, you can download a “patch” which will provide stereoscopic 3D and PlayStation Move support

There is a slight learning curve with utilizing the Move controls for High Velocity Bowling.  We were unable to throw strikes consistently right away, although ultimately, that’s probably a good thing because the game wouldn’t be much fun if it were too easy.  To play the game, you’ll need to move the PlayStation Move left or right to line up your bowler and press the Move button in order to accept their position on the bowling lane. From there, you will move the Move controller left or right if you want bowl at an angle instead of straight down the middle. Once that’s done and you hit the Move button one final time to confirm your aim, you hold down the T button on the bottom of the controller and perform a swinging motion with the controller to bowl. If you rotate the Move controller to the left or right while swinging your arm forward, you can add some spin on the ball, making yourself look more like a professional bowler. Due to the PlayStation Move requiring the use of the PlayStation Eye in order to track your movements, staying within the viewing eye of the camera is very important. When swinging the Move controller forward in a bowling motion, if your wand goes off camera, it’s no longer keeping track of your movement, which can result in a gutter ball or knocking down a couple pins.

With the inclusion of stereoscopic 3D support, the immersive experience within High Velocity Bowling enters another dimension - literally. This means that if your family has a 3D enable HDTV, then by turning this function on, the environment will seem to pop out of the screen, making it seem like you are actually bowling on a lane.  This function only works for HDTVs with 3D capability; it won’t work on standard HDTVs.
