Family Friendliness: Hot Wheels Track Attack is fun, but not overwhelmingly so.  It’s got solid multiplayer options so many family members can race at once, and lots of customization options for each of the Hot Wheels cars.  Although it is a thrill to race against and beat your family and friends, there aren’t many moment of excitement in the races that require you to interact with other players.  We recommend this for families who are already big racing game fans or who are very much into Hot Wheels.

Highlights:
- Nice selection of multiplayer modes emphasize skill just as much as speed, and will provide nice variety for families who enjoying racing games.
Lowlights:
- Hot Wheels fans will love all the customization options available in Hot Wheels Track Attack, but it almost seems like that is more fun than the racing itself.

Game Details:

Hot Wheels Track Attack for Wii is a basic racing game which incorporates stunts, elements and, of course, cars from the Hot Wheels universe.

Selections in the game are made by pointing the Wii-mote at the screen, while the driving portion of the game requires players to hold the Wii-mote sideways, pressing the 2 button to accelerate and tilting the Wii-mote left and right to steer.

This game is definitely designed and recommend for kids and tweens.  Reading is required, and there’s a good deal of pointing at the screen and selecting options for things like car customization and even race set up.

The racing itself is very easy to control, and cars are very easy to steer and maneuver once they get going.  Scattered throughout the track are various obstacles, including an abundance of what appear to be “do not cross” barriers in the middle of many of the tracks that are intended to be broken down and race through.  As players race, they can also press the B-trigger button for a speed boost.

In the single-player mode, players will work to win circuit races in order to unlock and earn new gameplay levels and car customization options.

Hot Wheels Track Attack also includes a nice multiplayer mode in which up to 4 players can compete in a variety of ways.  In addition to the standard racing, there’s also an Elimination style race in which whoever is in last place whenever a lap is completed is eliminated from the race.  Other multiplayer modes include a team mode and a token-collecting mode, both of which  require skill just as much as they do speed.

Hot Wheels Track Attack is fun, but not overwhelmingly so.
