Family Friendliness: Math Blaster: Hyperblast is part videogame, and part math quiz.  Although the two aren’t very well integrated, the game’s high scores should provide enough of a challenge to keep kids trying to do better and better.  Hopefully your kids will have fun combining the two as they work to see who can get the highest score as well as the best math accuracy in the various skill levels of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

Highlights:
- We like how the game scores both overall score and math accuracy, giving players two ways to try and gauge their success.

- Great range of difficulties and skill levels make Math Blaster: Hyperblast appealing to a broad range of ages.

Lowlights:
- The math is not very well integrated into the videogamey part of Math Blaster: HyperBlast.  The videogame portion isn’t particularly fun on its own, and is really very separate from the math parts of the game.  That being said, we do definitely appreciate the game’s educational value instead of being just another game that requires rather mindless shooting of objects.

Math Blaster: Hyperblast combines math-based challenges with a 3D videogame experience to help kids of various ages and proficiency levels practice math in a fun way.

The app gives players the feeling of moving forward through a tube in three dimensional space, where they must tilt their iPhone or iPad to the left or right in order to avoid or shoot obstacles that appear in front of them.  Periodically, they’ll encounter a tentacled creature who presents them with math problems, and players must quickly and accurately press the tentacle with the correct answer on it.

Scoring well on these math quizzes will reward players with “blasts” which can be used to clear all the upcoming on-screen obstacles in the game’s more videogame-style mode.  By waiting to use the blasts at just the right time, players can not only avoid tricky parts, but also rack up some points.

Kids of many different ages and skill levels will be able to enjoy Math Blaster: Hyperblast due to the games many different options.  Not only can players choose to do five different levels of difficulty in addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, they can also choose how many obstacles they’ll need to clear through in order to get to the math quizzes by choosing hard, medium or easy difficulty.

Math Blaster: Hyperblast is part videogame, and part math quiz.
