Phineas & Ferb Ride Again

ESRB Rating:
ESRB Rating Summary
E Mild Cartoon Violence
Release Date: September 14, 2010
Game System: DS
Publisher: Disney Interactive
Players: 1
Family Friendliness: While it’s a neat re-creation of the Phineas and Ferb universe, the gameplay would definitely at times be a bit difficult for younger fans of the show.  We’ve provided an approval for the kid age range, but it’s probably best for kids 7 and up.  As with many DS games, the only real opportunities for playing together are with over-the-shoulder style gameplay.

Highlights:
- If your family is a fan of the show, you’ll love being in the Phineas & Ferb world, and recognizing contraptions or locations you’ve seen on TV, such as the backyard Car Wash.

- Nice selection of mini-games to build things, and to escape Candace when she’s on the verge of busting of you.
Lowlights:
- Instructions and directions are almost completely text-based, so strong reading skills are a must.

Game Details:

Phineas and Ferb Ride Again is a single-player game for the Nintendo DS, that lets players control Phineas and Ferb as they build crazy contraptions in their search for Perry the Platypus.

The game makes use of most of the DS buttons, including the shoulder buttons which are located on the top corners of the system.  You can switch between Phineas and Ferb at any time, and whichever one you are not controlling will continue to follow you.

The gameplay is a bit challenging, and aside from a few key sounds from the show (like Isabella’s “Whatchoo Doin?” or Candace yelling “PHINEAS!”), all instructions and direction are text only, so players will need to be able to read to understand what to do.  Additionally, throughout each level, you’ll need to collect enough parts in order to allow Ferb to build certain contraptions at specific places.  These mini-games are a fun variety of things which include actions such as precise tapping, matching or even using broad strokes to paint something.

While it’s a neat re-creation of the Phineas and Ferb universe, the gameplay would definitely at times be a bit difficult for younger fans of the show.  We’ve provided an approval for the kid age range, but it’s probably best for kids 7 and up.  As with many DS games, the only real opportunities for playing together are with over-the-shoulder style gameplay.
