Here's what we wrote about Project Natal when it was announced.
“Project Natal” (pronounced “NUH-tall”) is a code name for what Microsoft is calling a revolutionary new way to play, with no controller required. Unlike 2-D cameras and controllers, “Project Natal” tracks your full body movement in 3-D. It uses a sensor to track your body movement and recognize your face, even listen to your voice.
When “Project Natal” is ready, it will work with every Xbox 360 console. Microsoft is hopeful that people who may be intimidated by today’s complex video game controllers can finally join the fun, since basically their body is their controller.
“Project Natal” was first shown in June of 2009, and lots of folks are hopeful it will be ready by the 2010 holiday season. Microsoft hasn’t said much since the initial showing, though, but is expected to unveil more information by June 2010 at the video game industry’s annual E3 Expo trade show.
