Racquet Sports

ESRB Rating Summary

Release Date: March 9, 2010
Game System: Wii
Publisher: Ubisoft
Players: 4
Family Friendly Video Games Approved
Family Friendliness:

Racquet Sports is great for a family looking for head-to-head competive fun, mixed in with some great moments of cooperative gameplay.  If you have Wii Motion Plus controllers, you may find the game more enjoyable because of the advanced “top-spin” or “back-spin” style hits you can do, although the game is perfectly enjoyable using only the regular Wii-mote.

Highlights:

-- The same “swinging” motion that is utilized in each racquet sport is simple to master, so young kids can pretty easily get the timing down, yet offers the ability for more advance moves like drop shots for older gamers.

-- Racquet Sports offers options for competitive gameplay, as well as cooperative modes, with Ping Pong serving as a real highlight for playing together with a teammate.

-- For those looking for a controller-free way to play, one player at a time can play using the Ubisoft Wii Camera and swinging their hands like the racquet.

Lowlights:

-- Limited number of characters available without having to be unlocked, so you’ll have to play through story mode a bit in order to build up your selection.

-- With it’s advanced spin techniques, the Wii Remote Plus may provide an unfair advantage if a player is using it against someone else with only a basic Wii-mote.

Game Details:

Although there are five racquet sports available, we found ourselves playing through the Badminton and Beach Tennis portions only when we had to, and seemed to gravitate more toward Tennis, Squash and Ping-Pong.  For a competitive, head-to-head experience, tennis and squash are excellent, and two-player ping-pong offers a fantastic cooperative mode which sees both players on the same team alternating volleys.
