Family Friendliness: If your family likes the Shrek movies, then they should really enjoy the Shrek Forever After video game, especially with the ability to play with up to four players at once.  However, families should be aware that a big part of the gameplay is physical violence, so this title isn’t really suited for younger kids.

Highlights:

– Fun-recreation of the Shrek Universe, placing you in control of Shrek, Fiona, Donkey or Puss In Boots.

- Every character is needed – you’ll need the strengths and abilities of all four characters in order to solve all the game’s puzzles, defeat enemies, or move objects.

Lowlights:
– Lots of physical violence in the character interactions, meaning you should definitely follow the ESRB’s E 10+ rating on this one.

NOTE – This is based on playing the Xbox 360 version of the game

Shrek Forever After puts you in control of Shrek, Fiona, Donkey or Puss In Boots, the main characters from the Shrek series.  Following the plot of Shrek Forever After, the characters must all help restore order after Shrek signs a contract with Rumplestiltskin.

If you’re playing by yourself, you’ll be able to switch characters at any time, which will be necessary to help solve certain puzzles or to access certain items.  When two players are playing, they can also switch characters, but will never be able to have both players be the same (e.g. there can’t be two Shreks playing at once).  What’s really cool, though, is that the game allows four players to play at once, all sharing the same screen.

The game sees you battle through a 3D world, using weapons or sheer force to attack enemies or break objects.  Although not overly violent, the main crux of most of the gameplay is physical attacks on others, so this is something to consider if you’re playing with younger kids in the room.

One of the great things about Shrek Forever After the video game is the way the story is told, through movie quality cutscenes and with the Shrek humor-style.  There are plenty of puzzles designed for each specific character, so if you’re playing as a group or just playing by yourself, everyone will have their time to shine.

If your family likes the Shrek movies, then they should really enjoy the Shrek Forever After video game, especially with the ability to play with up to four players at once.  However, families should be aware that a big part of the gameplay is physical violence, so this title isn’t really suited for younger kids.
