Sled Shred Featuring the Jamaican Bobsled Team focuses on one thing – downhill sledding. And while the presentation is pretty basic, it’s still a fun game that can be played by up to four players at a time.
Players will control their sleds by holding the Wii-mote sideways, and leaning it forward to go faster and left or right to turn. Families can also use their Wii Balance Boards to control the game.
The game’s story mode slowly takes you through from the introduction of a mysterious coach (Coach Mon), and introduces you to different racing items and sleds as you work your way up to the Jamaican Bobsled Team. You’ll need to play through story mode in order to earn power ups that can be used during the multiplayer free play.
The game doesn’t feature any verbal instructions, but it’s pretty clear what you need to do, with bright, large icons scattered throughout the track. The basic gameplay is very simple, but there is definite head-to-head fun to be had as up to four players race side by side down the different courses.
We found that the controls were simple enough that even skilled toddlers could play. We weren’t blown away by the fun factor of Sled Shred, but we did have a fun time in our testing. Sled Shred featuring the Jamaican Bobsled Team probably won’t be your family’s favorite game, but it does provide simple enough fun that we do recommend it as a nice budget titles for families looking for a competitive, easy-to-play game.
