Family Friendliness: If your family loves the Smurfs movies and the Just Dance game, then by all means, Smurfs Dance Party is for you.  But the game really seems to overdo it with the Smurf theme, and although it’s easy-to-play, our family quickly tired of the smurf gimmick, and we think yours might, too.

Highlights:
- We like the feedback from the Wii-mote to the dance moves.  When performing, you’ll feel vibrations to help let you know how you’re doing.

- The simple control scheme of holding a Wii-mote and matching the on-screen dancing is great for nearly any age.

Lowlights:
- This game is incredibly Smurfy, and we mean that in the literal sense.  The smurf theme is everywhere, from subsitituted words, to smurf-packed songs.  If you’re not sick of the smurfs before playing Smurfs Dance Party, you probably will be after playing it.

- Although the gameplay mechanic is simple, we think mimicking the onscreen moves a computer generated character, such as a smurf, just feels a bit more unnatural.  The levels where Gargamel danced weren’t so bad, but you could also tell his motions were electronically manipulated in some parts, making it feel a bit weird trying to dance like him.

Game Details:

This dance game is published by the same company who makes the Just Dance series of games.  While the gameplay is nearly identical, the use of computer-generated Smurfs instead of real-life characters makes the dancing itself less enjoyable.

Smurfs Dance Party has a wide selection of songs, all Smurf-themed songs.  Some are takes on popular songs like “Who Let The Smurfs Out?” Or” Smurf This Way” instead of “Walk This Way.”

Two players can play at a time, and there are three different game modes.  One is a normal mode, one is a duet mode where two players play side-by-side following different smurfs.  And in the other, players will periodically need to freeze or shake their Wiimotes.  We thought the freezing and shaking was a bit annoying, as the instruction to do that is completely separate from the Smurfs you are dancing along with, and they don’t stop moving even though you’re supposed to.

If your family loves the Smurfs movies and the Just Dance game, then by all means, Smurfs Dance Party is for you.  But the game really seems to overdo it with the Smurf theme, and although it’s easy-to-play, our family quickly tired of the smurf gimmick, and we think yours might, too.
