Family Friendliness: If you have more than one DS, Sonny With A Chance is a great game for families to play together.  It’s got cute, familiar characters, an easy-to-understand board game style of play, and mini-games that range from thoughtful puzzlers to action-oriented events.  Even if your family only has one DS, it’s still recommended if you have a kid or tween who is a fan of the show.

Highlights:

-- Only one game cart needed for a multi-player session on multiple DSes.

-- Fast-pace of gameplay means that even though it’s not always your turn, you still remain engaged in what’s happening on screen.

--Easy menu system makes getting into a new game, or loading one you were already playing a breeze.

Lowlights:

-- No mini-games available right off the bat, so you have to play through the board game and then decide which ones to purchase.

-- No way to customize game length, so you have to go for 20 turns even if you want to play a shorter game.

Game Details:

Sonny With A Chance is like a board game on your DS, which sees the Sonny With A Chance character you choose take on three other computer-controlled characters in an effort to collect the most fan mail.  When you land on some spaces on the board, you add to your pile.  Other spaces take fan mail away.  And the real fun comes from the spaces that trigger mini-games or other power-ups that can greatly alter the size of your pile of mail.

For families with a little videogame experience, the gameplay is very reminiscent of Nintendo’s Mario Party games.  But if you’ve never heard of or played those, don’t worry because you will be able to get a hang of Sonny With A Chance in a hurry.

The game’s presentation is very simple, with easy-to-navigate menus, and simple selections that will allow kids to easily be able to select what they want (which is good, because by its nature the DS is a fairly solitary experience).

The board game moves at a decent pace, and although you have to watch everybody’s turn, things happen pretty quickly, so there’s not really any downtime.
