Family Friendliness: Just like real sushi, Sushi Go Round may not appeal to everyone in your family, but those that do acquire the taste for it will have a hard time putting the controller down.  The game's emphasis on multi-tasking and attention to detail provide a fun (sometimes frantic) family-friendly experience that we recommend for families with older kids.

Highlights:

- Kids will learn multi-tasking without even realizing it as they keep up with the customer's orders, use the phone to obtain extra ingredients and make sure to clear off all the dirty plates.

- Sushi Go Round also emphasizes attention to detail, as each sushi recipe requires slightly different combinations of the same ingredients.

Lowlights:

- Multiplayer and additional modes offer slight gameplay twists, but nothing that really offers a new or noteworthy gameplay experience.  Even though puzzle mode sounds like it would be totally different, it's really just the same basic gameplay where you don't have to use menus.

- Folks whose families don't like sushi may pass this one up purely based on the game's subject matter, and will end up missing out on this game's unique multi-tasking puzzle gameplay.

Game Details:

In Sushi Go Round, you're tasked with working behind the counter at a sushi bar, where you'll need to use the Wii-mote to hand out menus, put together sushi rolls, order more supplies and even clear away the dirty plates.  For the most part, the game involves pointing the Wii-mote at something on-screen and clicking, although there are a couple instances where you'll need to flick the Wii-mote, such as when you need to roll the sushi up.

The game slowly introduces new sushi recipes, which are boiled down to very simple combinations of your core ingredients.  Customers will order via a "thought bubble" that shows a picture of what they want, and the recipe book is really as simple as saying you need 2 white things and 1 black thing.  For example, a common order of Onigiri is represented on-screen by what looks like a white dumpling with a bit of black on the bottom.  From your recipe book, you can quickly see that you need to 2 Rice and 1 Nori to make the Onigiri.  That may seem like a lot of confusing Japanese information there, but knowing these names is not at all a requirement for enjoying this game.

After a couple times playing, you'll start to discover that this game is really more about the rhythm of balancing everything you are doing, as you switch between creating sushi dishes that customers order while making sure you maintain a constant supply of the sushi ingredients.

There were two ways our family enjoyed playing the game together.  One involved playing the single player mode cooperatively, with onlookers helping guide our actions, providing help such as "There's a new customer, give them a menu" or "Don't forget to make that California Roll."   But the game also offers the option for two players to go head to head in a race to serve the customers first.

This one may be a bit too fast-paced for younger kids, but older kids should enjoy trying to keep all the customers happy.  Without even realizing it, they'll be learning multi-tasking skills and attention to detail, as each recipe requires very specific amounts of each ingredient.

Just like real sushi, Sushi Go Round may not appeal to everyone in your family, but those that do acquire the taste for it will have a hard time putting the controller down.  The game's emphasis on multi-tasking and attention to detail provide a fun (sometimes frantic) family-friendly experience that we recommend for families with older kids.
