Family Friendliness: Although younger kids can easily maneuver the character, the game does require a good bit of critical thinking and planning, and therefore older kids and tweens should find solving each level extremely rewarding.

Highlights:
-- Being able to rewind and pause the action is a really cool and useful feature, especially because many of the levels require a high level of critical thinking.
Lowlights:
-- Although it may seem like this could be a run and jump type platformer, you need to be prepared that this game is all about using the right tools at the right time.

Game Details:

Toki Tori is a game for iPhone and iPod Touch that sees you guide your character through levels to try and gather eggs.  Controls are fairly simple, with you touching where you want your bird to go.  The bird can make small jumps up and down, but will need to rely on various tools throughout most levels to be able to access all the eggs they need to find.

The first set of levels slowly introduces all the items, tools and warps at your disposal, by presenting you with a brief description and a level that must be solved by using whatever item you are being introduced to.

Although it is tempting to just start touching places all over the level to help free the eggs, Toki Tori is really more about thinking through your strategy before you get started.  This isn’t a frantic egg-hunt, but rather requires patience and forethought.

One of the neat things about Toki Tori is the ability to rewind the action in case you made an erroneous move.  It means you won’t have to re-play an entire level in case you accidentally make a mistake, or even just need to quickly re-try and tricky part.

Overall, we enjoyed Toki Tori’s simple control scheme, bright graphics and novel use of tools and warps.  Although younger kids can easily maneuver the character, the game does require a good bit of critical thinking and planning, and therefore only older kids and up will likely be able to enjoy any success.
