In this DS game, players will care for their Zhu Zhu pets, while also venturing out to various locations on the map and running them through courses in which they must find their way to the end goal.
The Zhu Zhu Pets are controlled by pointing the stylus at the screen, and it’s actually simple enough that even toddlers can do it. The mazes are easy to control, and can be played through either as quickly as possible, or players can take their time and try and collect ever item possible. In the mazes, players will encounter all sorts of obstacles, ramps and cool power ups. For some, like the wooden boxes, you’ll need to press the A button to break them, but others, like balloons, can be popped with just a little bit of speed.
Although easy to control, some of the mazes can be a bit challenging and confusing, especially because there is no larger map for you to see where you need to go. However, there is an icon which tells you the general direction of the goal, and that’s at least a bit more helpful than if it weren’t there at all.
When the Zhu Zhu Pets aren’t racing, they’ll need to be cared for in their home, and players can feed, love and nurture their pets with very simple controls. The game has a simplified version of a clock, which breaks the day down into six different parts, ranging from morning to bedtime. Players will need to be tuned into their Zhu Zhu Pets overall health and move, and provide them the items, rest or exercise they need when they’re not participating in the various courses.
Zhu Zhu Pets 2 Featuring the Wild Bunch is a great game for younger kids and toddlers, with its simple controls and verbal instructions. Parents can feel safe letting them play on their own a bit, or may even enjoy a bit of over-the-should cooperative gameplay as they watch/help the Zhu Zhu Pets through some of the more difficult courses.
