Zhu Zhu Pets 2 Featuring the Wild Bunch for Wii asks families to run their Zhu Zhu pets through “side-scrolling” levels that involves platforms, jumps, slides and tubes. Players will hold the Wii-mote sideways, with the d-pad on the left and the buttons on the right, and move back and forth by going left and right on the d-pad.
Throughout the levels, the Zhu Zhu pets are asked to “tag” the members of the Wild Bunch, who are running loose through various parts of the levels. For those unfamiliar, the Wild Bunch is a group of Zhu Zhu animals that live in wilderness, and are sometimes mischievious. Tagging consists of simply catching up to them, at which point they’ll raise a white flag.
In addition to tagging, each level also contains a number of coins, carrots and other items collect. The only one that’s really necessary to get is the key to unlock the end of the level, but other than that it’s up to the players to determine whether they want to quickly complete a level, or take their time and try to collect everything.
The game does feature a 2-player cooperative mode, which is a fun way to play together. But whoever is Player 1 is the “dominant” player onscreen, so if Player 2 either wanders off or gets forced off screen, they’ll be automatically pushed back to where Player 1 is. The screen always centers on Player 1, so it can be difficult to play as Player 2, because you will not be able to stray very far. Although we do like the cooperative mode, it can lead to frustration for Player 2, because they may not feel like they are in enough control.
Zhu Zhu Pets 2 Featuring the Wild Bunch for Wii is a fun, easy-to play game that is great for young kids to play along with grown-ups or older siblings. Younger kids just won’t be able to play on their own because all the instructions are written, and although the game offers a nice co-op mode, you need to be prepared that whoever is “Player 2” will often be forced off-screen and will not always feel in control of the action.
